meet alyssa,

She's a Bajan-American creative and organizer in Fairbanks, Alaska who’s a little camera shy, loves ice cream, plays the violin, and hoards candles. Among all, she's also an artist. And art is just something she does. Her work focuses on people and relaying their ethereal characteristics. She loves to incorporate flowers, fruits, and other elements of nature in her pieces, so there is a common theme of petals or flowing patterns. Figure drawings and sketches are another theme in Alyssa's work. She draws live, allowing her subjects to move and create new poses. She mostly works in watercolor, ink, and colored pencil. She's an open book. So if collaborations, commissions, or other questions come to mind, feel free to reach out!

FAQs

How long have you been an Artist?
Since I was young. I've always been drawing and creating ever since.

Where do you get your ideas from?
People inspire everything about my art. I draw a lot of inspiration from community, resistance, and movement. I feel we are the most emotive when we are together, creating something new and necessary. I’ve studied and love to fill themes and motifs from the Early Renaissance, Art Nouveau, and Revolutionary eras in my work. But performance art, avante garde, and street art pieces will always be the people’s art to me.

What does 'drawing live' mean?
Essentially it is allowing your reference model to move around naturally, instead of posing them all the time and staying still. I find I get more interesting and genuine poses that way, and I'm able to pull much more emotion with this method than drawing from a posed model.

Have you ever been published or featured?
